SEE THE PIPESTONE CREEK BONEBED FOR YOURSELF!
Step back 73 million years and explore one of North America's most extraordinary dinosaur fossil sites.
Discovered in 1973 by local teacher Al Lakusta, the Pipestone Creek Bonebed is one of the richest dinosaur fossil sites ever found. The Pipestone Creek Bonebed is home to thousands of fossils, including the famous Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai. Featured in Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 and still actively excavated today. This world-renowned site offers a rare opportunity to experience palaeontology in action.
Beginning at the Shed Museum, you'll discover how ancient floods, prehistoric ecosystems, and massive dinosaur herds shaped this remarkable landscape. Then, join your guide on a hike to the active excavation site, where you'll see fossils being uncovered and learn how scientists are piecing together the story of Alberta's ancient past. Along the way, you'll have the chance to explore the bonebed, meet working palaeontologists on select tours, and try your hand at fossil prospecting in Pipestone Creek.

Location: Pipestone Creek Campground. Visitors must arrange their own transportation to and from the location.

PLEASE NOTE
- Bonebed Tour: Fossils, Floods and Footprints include a walk of approximately 2.5 km.
- Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Safety waivers must be signed by all participants.
- There are no washrooms available once the walk has begun; please plan accordingly.
Tours are limited to a maximum of 15 attendees per session. Tours are weather-dependent and may be cancelled in the event of adverse conditions.
